Profile
Andrew Sosa Sosanya アンドリュー・ソサ
Born in New York and based in Brooklyn, I first came to music during the pandemic, when a friend left a battered acoustic guitar by my door. I taught myself the fundamentals through late-night tutorials and patient neighbors, and slowly began writing the kind of music I had always wanted to hear.
My work moves between hybrid soundscapes, small-ensemble arrangements, and orchestral writing. I draw most of my vocabulary from the video-game scores I grew up on — Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Kingdom Hearts — and from composers like Yoko Kanno, Hania Rani, Ahmad Jamal, Piero Umiliani, Chick Corea, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
In Brooklyn I organize The Most Casual Recital, an ongoing series of low-pressure performances held in living rooms, backyards, and small community spaces. The series brings together musicians at very different points in their practice — first-time performers next to working professionals — and treats every set with the same care.
I am currently in residence at Woodward in Ridgewood, Queens, working on a suite of pieces for strings, piano, and electronics. I am open to collaborations with ensembles, filmmakers, and game studios.
